Ahmadinejad's future showed up again yesterday, in his first news conference since the election. Asked by CNN's Christiane Amanpour about the treatment of demonstrators by security forces and about a "guarantee" for the safety of challenger Mir Hossein Mousavi. he quickly set out the present so he could turn his eyes to months and years beyond: "A new era has been ushered in for the Iranian people" through this election, "a look toward the future and high aspirations". Those alleged protests? "The situation in Iran is in a very good condition and people had been arrested because they had acted against laws".
