In his sermon yesterday he criticized the Ahmadinejad government and declared that he is resigning from leading the prayers in protest.

Ayatollah Montazeri has issued another Fatwa condemning the governments policies and proclaiming the government illegitimate. I think although Montazeri has been marginalized his moral authority should not be underestimated.

In fact Ayatollah Reza Ostadi who is a cleric associated with conservatism and a member of the Expediency Discernment Council led the Friday prayers yesterday.
