Anonymous,

Thank you for posting this. I saw the original report, which ran in several places in state media. An EA source told me that the official who was supposedly targeted was the Minister of Science and Higher Education, Kamran Daneshjoo. Five "suspects" were arrested by Iranian security forces.

I am treating this, pending the display of any evidence, as a Government propaganda attempt to discredit 13 Aban.

Anonymous,

Deceit is the true color of this government. I wouldn’t put it past by this regime to bomb foreign embassies and then blame it on Green Movement.

Today, a caller from Iran called into a radio station I had tuned in and advised protesters not to go near any embassy. She also said she had heard government was planning to harm Karroubi and blame it on protesters.

Jamshid - I'm personally hoping this movement will help open the political space in Iran where people can start agreeing to disagree in non-violent and cilivized ways.
That's step 1, and I hope it will be creatively chaotic and long enough so that people don't fall into another pre-fab trap without knowing how the hell they got caught.
Then we can talk about what each of us really wishes for. That's step 2.
Right now, my best hope is to force this government to effectively acknowledge Iranians as individual HUMAN BEINGS WITH INALIENABLE, BASIC RIGHTS rather than as Muslims (or Jews, Christians, Zoroastrians . . . or atheists). That's kind of ground zero.

This is concerning the post about the opposition group warning that there might be violent action taking against foreign embassies. This article states that Iranian gov news agencies are reporting that authorities have foiled to plots to assasinate a prominent government official and attack foreign embassies tomorrow.

Adam,

I was listening to Tabarzani, a journalist who was released in 2008 after serving a 7-year term in Evin Prison. I was encouraged by what I heard. It seems there is no shortage of very distinguished and well qualified people to assume leadership once this regime is crushed. I also heard the membership in front line is from different political parties that have formed a very strong coalition. I, therefore, am not even worried about whether Mousavi is the right person or can he lead. I am worried about the enormous task on hand right now which is crushing the current system. Not only it is a giant task it will be bloody.

Once the people are united and force the regime to back down, everything changes. Mousavi has shown himself able to lead and rely on the people, as have a number of clerics supporting him (particularly Karroubi). Further, they have shown an ability and willingness to firmly defend the human and civil rights of the people.
Whether there is still a ceremonial role for Islamic Clerics is not the issue. It is about Democracy, Freedom, and Peace. Mousavi can deliver on those issues and that will change Iran forever.

And so are we hoping for a reformed Islamic Republic from this movement?
What do you expect will happen next?
