Great ob - Great Surprise and Great that I was able to find the video feed as I missed the speech while it occurred and am happy to have run into it here.

How lucky you are, american people, to have a president which is working for peace around the world and give you a health system, always saying intelligent stuff...
In France, our sarkozy is breaking everything that was making France a wonderful country, and divide every french which disagree his politic by frightening them. :(
France is dead. America is the hope of the world diseases.
Mr. Obama, you are the best president ever !

While I have no problem with his speech and I think its nice of him to make a surprise visit to American soldiers (tho I thought it was rather rude he didn't at all praise the soldiers still in Iraq), isn't it rather ignorant of him to say that the Muslim extremist are trying to drive races apart? If anything Al-Qaeda and even perhaps the Taliban are a multi-ethnic cults of death(kind of a hyperbole but still true :P). In fact I think it would be fair to say the main force in the world today doing most to drive races and ethnic group apart, at least in the region, are western powers.

Also I realize I unfairly picked out a extremely small part of his speech, but it just irked me.

Artanian,

In the past 2-3 days I have noted your comments. I have noted them because they are all anti-west and anti-westerners. I do not know if you are a new reader of EA or you commented in the past with a different name or you are a long time reader and I have not noted your comments. Though I doubt the latter be the case.

I can offer point by point rebuttal but I have learned that it is total waste of time to engage people who have certain predisposition. I only want to say that if it was not for the west and Westerners you would not be able to access the technology that allows you to use cyber space for expressing your views. Please keep in mind that countless other amenities you enjoy in life are fruits of western ingenuity. Please stop the West and the East old argument. It is separatism and it is counterproductive.

I do not know if you are an Iranian but some of your views (e.g. the double standard regarding nuclear weapon which by the way you were missing the main point by several miles) sound very similar to supporters of IR who comments on EA. You can identify them easily because they all use the same training manual and have the same talking points. I chuckle when I see their comments and most often ignore them.

No offense Megan, but you are a pathetic person who jumps to conclusions for no good reason and clearly there is no point to having an argument with a fool. I would have you know this is the second time I have ever commented on this website and my other comment was on a completely different topic couple of month ago and not at all related to Iranian nuclear program.
I also don't see how your statement about technology is at all related to what I said regarding Obama statement.

I suggest next time you are going to accuse someone of being a IR supporter or trying to use the "West and East old argument" (what the hell is the West and East argument anyway? people here have been comparing history?) you either make sure you got the right person, or instead of making your self look like an idiot you could just shut up.

Also I would be interested if you could kindly point out how exactly was my comment exactly negative on Western countries/civilization?

Hi all, just a quick request that discussions are kept civil otherwise we'll have to start pre-moderating comments.

I'm sorry Mike, while I don't think I stepped out of line I will keep that in mind next time and reply in a more polite fashion. However a more important rule perhaps would be requiring posters not to post in an accusatory and hostile manner in response to other commentators without good reason as that would impede any ability to have a constructive conversation and would make the point of commenting all but null.

Artanian,

Thank you for your kind words. It appears that I touched a raw nerve so I was on the right track.

Artanian- thanks. My comment wasn't aimed only at you though- as you say hostility begets hostility and spoils the discussion thread for everyone. We don't want EA becoming a place where people come just to argue.
