2015 GMT: Casualties. Local activists claim a regime airstrike on a mainly Kurdish area in Aleppo has killed 15 people, with the toll likely to rise because of a large number of serious injuries.

The British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said nine children and three women were among those killed in the Sheikh Maksoud neighbourhood.

The Observatory asserted that, after the airstrike, Kurdish fighters killed five regime soldiers in an attack on an army checkpoint on the outskirts of Sheikh Maksoud.

1035 GMT: Refugees. A long-awaited refugee camp, funded by the UAE, will open in Jordan this week.

There has been pressure to set up a new camp because of overcrowding in the only current one, located in Zaatari.

The United Nations estimates that almost 500,000 Syrians have fled go Jordan, with 150,000 at Zaatari.

The UAE offered last September to set up a new camp, responding to a call by the UN, but the Jordanian Government initially hesitated in giving approval.

0715 GMT: Refugees. Syrian officials claim that almost 35,000 refugees have returned from Jordan since 2011 "to escape the bad conditions they are suffering" in camps.

0515 GMT: Casualies. The Local Coordination Committees claim 83 people were killed on Friday, including 48 in Damascus and its suburbs.

The Violations Documentation Center appear to have a higher total for the daily deaths, probably because of casualties among fighters. It reports 55,424 people killed since the beginning of the conflict in March 2011, an increase of 197 on Friday. Of the dead, 44,195 are civilians, a rise of 99 from yesterday.

0505 GMT: Humanitarian Crisis. A major United Nations agency has warned that it will soon run out of money to cope with the needs of  Syrians who are internally displaced or who have fled to neighbouring countries.

The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) said on Friday that it will be unable by June  to pay for operations in Jordan, including water sanitation and hygiene services to about 100,000 refugees in the Zaatari camp.

The UN said this week that there are almost 4 million Syrians who are internally displaced, with about 1.25 million refugees. Almost 500,000 of those refugees are in Jordan, with the UN estimating that the number will rise to 1.2 million by the end of this year.
