Comment Pre-Moderation
Friday, June 4, 2010 at 23:05
Following our post at the weekend, this evening we've switched on pre-moderation of 'anonymous' comments. This means that if you're not signed in, your comment won't appear until it has been approved by one of the EA team.

Barry, Scott and I were discussing the threaded replies the other day- we were torn as to whether it was useful or not. I'll count you as one vote against threaded comments, feedback from others appreciated...
Mike,
You have my vote against threaded comments, but then... how should we know, which comment is meant? "XYZ wrote 5 hours ago" won't work out, I fear ;-)
Sorry for giving you additional trouble, and thanks a lot for keeping EA going :-)

P.S. I find it very comfortable to know what I have written 3 weeks ago. Saint Alzheimer, alas...

I totally agree with Barry. Incidentally Disqus is a bit confusing and takes time. Mike - is there any possibility using Disqus but with a nummeration of comments and one after the other ?
Ange,
Please don't leave!!! I have always loved your colorful and well articulted responses! I do agree Discqus has made it a bit of a pain but once you sign up your comments won't be moderated!!! As for many of the people leaving I think your forgetting we lost many of the Green supporters in Iran because they were cut off. Have a great weekend!!!
Thx
Bill
Mike,
Discqus actually makes it easier to block the site and does take more resources to process. I have tried to use Disqus with "crappy" bandwidth and it is an absolute pain. I think EA needs to realize many people, especially those in Iran, don't have access to high speed Internet. Further compounding the issue in Iran is the filtering which is slowing down the speed to a fraction of what it should be. Just my two cents. Oh by the way every time I open a new page I must sign in each and everytime to post with Discqus--I haven't figured out the problem but hopefully will shortly.
Thx
Bill
OK, let's see if I can get this one done before my browser crashes for the umpteenth time - something that has only happened since EA acquired Discus. I already mentioned how difficult to read the threaded replies were on day one after Discus. The numbered comments in chronological order with posters' names and exact dates/times was much easier imo. But my main problems with this system is that I can't surf the EA site, logged in to Discus or not, without my latest version of Firefox crashing. We've already determined that my add-ons are not causing the problem. These are the error reports I submit to the Firefox Crash Monitor every couple of minutes while on EA since Discus was implemented:
Crash report after posting a comment:
Every time I refresh a page on this Wordpress site (or the page is saved to the site when I close the tab) after I've posted a comment in the http://Disqus.com" rel="nofollow">Disqus.com comments system, FF crashes closing all open windows, requiring it to restore the session. This only happens when I'm logged in to Disqus. This has been going on since the site acquired Discus. I've never had a FF crash before this site got Discus and I suspect FF crashes regularly on all Wordpres sites with Discus. Pls fix asap
Crash report while surfing EA logged in to Discus:

Crash report while surfing EA NOT logged in to Discus:
I only started haveing regular FF crashes after this Wordpress site acquired the http://Disqus.com" rel="nofollow">Disqus.com comments system: FF crashes while surfing through the site (even though I'm NOT logged on to Discus), closing all open windows and requiring it to restore the session. I don't know if others are having these same problems but it is certainly true that there are fewer people posting and less lively debates since the implementation of Discus. I do love the seach and edit features, but I can't really make use of them if my browser is constantly crashing, can I?
Catherine,
Welcome back. As to your FF crashes, I have the same problem, but mostly when refreshing and scrolling down the page immediately, i.e. when Disqus is still loading the comments. Apparently Disqus is too slow with loading, which causes a conflict with FF.
In some cases the mere refreshing of EA causes a crash. Otherwise there are no problems, certainly not with other Wordpress sites, when I'm logged in to Disqus.
I wonder, if your FF still has a bug to be fixed, but it's obviously very annoying that Disqus still hasn't fixed its problems with Firefox...
Arshama
Hi Arshama,
Thanks for your welcome back! The reason I mentioned FF problems with Wordpress sites that use Discus is because the crash reports submitted by FF users everywhere to the Mozilla site are filled with reports of crashes caused by this particular combination. And I also read some info about this on the web. Maybe it's not all WP sites. All I know is that this is extremely irritating, and if not solved it may eventually keep me from posting. So far no action has been taken on this by either Discus or Mozilla.
Dear Bill
Thank you for your kinds words; I am so sad not to be with readers to comment Iran News ; with this tough systeme, it's not possible for me because of :
- What Catherine explained, all the problems she has been facing with, and you know, I am so useless at technological issues and not able to handle all that.
- what Bozorg said at 8h11pm "with the prospect of my comments being traced back ..."I keep my freedom; I was so happy to meet you and all the readers, Megan( the enthousiast), Cyrus( the independent), Barry(at 7am of Paris, was already on EA), Rev(the spiritual), Arshama( Ma bishomarim V), Afshin(the chessplayer), Hossein and Whereismyvote ( my iranian heroes inside the country), Samuel(his knowledge), my dear Gunniy and Bijan77( their english was very hard to understand), Eric Brill(I have no link to provide my dear Eric)and many others, by whom I was so impressed; I apologize if I have forgotten the other names; I thank Scott and Mike for what they have done, I loved them but they have changed; this shift reminds me an article :
"The Cleric Who Changed: Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran's Supreme Leader, was not always deeply conservative"

I will stay with you without commenting and as usual, I will be hanged to EA all day; I wish you good luck and keep your good work; I hope,as soon as, our country will be free; I breath to reach this target.
Hugs
Ange
