2140 GMT: A Special Note for Closing (and for Opening Tomorrow). In another portion of his press confernce, Iran Prosecutor General Gholam Hossein Mohseni-Ejei took aim at the son of former President Hashemi Rafsanjani: “If there are any charges against Mehdi Hashemi, he should be summoned and his case investigated. If he is found guilty, he should be punished without any mercy.”

Subtext? The Government is pulling out the threats because it is worried that Rafsanjani is up to something big.

And guess what? He is. Tune in first thing tomorrow morning.

2100 GMT: Cyber-Protest. The Green Movement has hacked the website of Gilan University. The homepage still features a protest poster and the slogan, “Green Movement is Alive”.

2215 GMT: On? Off? Well, I guess for a day that started with a projection of Government uncertainty, it is appropriate that it should end that way. Having said on Saturday that Iran could reject the Vienna enrichment deal, top lawmaker Alaeddin Boroujerdi http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/afp_world/view/1016801/1/.html on Sunday, “Our first option is to buy fuel of 20 per cent (enrichment). But if we cannot buy it we could make a limited exchange on condition that first we get fuel of 20 per cent.”

So is Boroujerdi shifting in recognition that pro-deal forces have pressed ahead (see 1640 GMT)? Or is he just manoeuvring for a better position, working with allies, to hold out against any agreement?

2030 GMT: Another day with some releases from prison and some cases going to trial. The file of Mohsen Aminzadeh, Deputy Foreign Minister in the Khatami Government, has been sent to the Revolutionary Court.

1930 GMT: An Iranian blogger reports that Mohammad-Hossein Saffar-Harandi, the former Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance, was met by sustained protests when he visited Gilan University in northern Iran today and left to shouts of “Murderer, Get Out!”. We have video in a separate entry.

1850 GMT: Three Iranian judges have reported been fired because of their connection with the Kahrizak Prison, infamous for alleged abuse of detainees.

1640 GMT: Nuclear Deal On? Yes, the Ahmadinejad Government is pressing ahead, despite objections from within the establishment.

Throughout yesterday, the reports and videos came in. A gathering of students (1500?) at Tehran University, dispersed by security guards. More protests at Azad University in Tehran. Video of a rally at Chamran University in Ahwaz, almost 500 miles from Tehran. Footage of a protest at Khaje Nasir University  of Technology in Tehran (now added to our video page).

Indeed, there were so many reports , and the need to verify them, that we could not keep up before we had an early close to the evening. And there is more, courtesy of an EA correspondent with excellent contacts in Iran.

There were also protests on Sunday at Allameh Tabatabei University in Tehran, with chants of “Death to the Dictator!”. Students at Sharif University wore green clothing. At Gilan University in Rasht in northern Iran, a student shouted “Death to the Dictator”, as Nezamuddin Mousavi, a supporter of President Ahmadinejad, was speaking (video available on YouTube). Perhaps most significantly, the heads of security of Iran’s uiversities have met in Qom.

So we catch up to see this picture: unlike previous periods in this crisis, when opposition fell into silence, there was no lull between the drama of the Tehran Media Fair and Mehdi Karroubi’s webcast and the University demonstrations of the last 48 hours. If this continues and indeed builds up to 13 Aban (4 November), expect a massive display of public frustration, concern, and hope. And maybe more importantly, expect no cessation after 13 Aban.
