EA's Big Volcano Vacation: Eastbound and Down (I Hope)
Thursday, April 22, 2010 at 23:49
UPDATE 22 APRIL: I am due to make my dash for Britain this afternoon, going via Boston and Paris. If I'm successful, there will be a break in news until Friday afternoon; my thanks in advance to readers for keeping EA going through information and comments. And now, Mr Jerry Reed:

I'll be in the southeast of the US this week, bringing you all the inside news on baseball, stock car racing, and country music.
Updates on the Iran LiveBlog will be intermittent at times this week, but we'll still be bringing you important stories from Washington and around the world. EA staff will be minding the shop, and as usual, our readers will be bringing in information and ideas.

Nice! If you're near Huntsville, let's grab a bite! My mobiles on my Facebook
Sweet Home Alabama......and Mississippi mud pie.
Welcome Scott!
Thanks to all for best wishes. No Mississippi Mud Pie, but most definitely Lynyrd Skynyrd on the car stereo.
Josh, was hoping to get back to old hometown, but sadly not enough time on this swing. A rain check for that lunch....

Scott, I hope you can make it back to England without much delay.
... without much of a delay due to the volcano, that is.
Rob,
Thanks for your thought. EA's Spring Break will be extended to Friday, as I'll start wandering back, via a very convoluted route, on Thursday afternoon.

An expensive way to get home, but you can always eat beans for the next few months.

Cheaper ones.
Dave,
Earlier today Scott told me that if he winds up rowing across the Atlantic in a dinghy, he will summon the Dutch Navy for assistance.... so I guess we're looking at something WAY cheaper :-)
Sorry folks, no expensive cruises, no Dutch navy! Heathrow and Frankfurt airport are open again, even though on a restricted scale.
The last days reminded me of that wonderful explanation for good old BOAC: Better On A Camel ;-)
Whoa whoa, look at these coincidences! :-D

Scott,
Thank you for the Bowie clip. Unfortunately it is not available in Germany because of EMI content...
I protest ;-)

Pardon, I forgot...
Good news! Gordon Brown has ordered the navy to bring back all those 150.000 British citizens left abroad: http://www.spiegel.de/politik/ausland/0,1518,689773,00.html
In the navy, hmm...

Scott,
Thank you very much for Bowie's live clip, also from German Bureau.
WSJ reports that "that around three-quarters of scheduled international flights will depart from Paris' two main airports, Roissy and Orly. Air France-KLM (AF.FR) said that its long-haul flights from the two airports would return to normal."

Looking forward to your speedy return...

Scott - here's the real reason for your return trip travails:
God's Own Sanction Against EU Countries
The hard-line Rajanews website has suggested that the recent eruption of Iceland’s volcano and the cloud of ash that has led to travel chaos was God’s reaction to attempts by European Union countries -- led “by the U.S., Britain, and the Zionist lobby” -- to impose tough economic sanctions against the Islamic republic.

Dr. Lucas,
I heard the Bandit's car was fitted with a 455 cubic inch V8. Regular production Firebird Trans-Ams for 1977 were available with the 400 (manual transmission only) and the Oldsmobile-designed 403 (automatic transmission only). 1976 T/As were the last to have the 455 block which, in 1970, was actually 50 pounds lighter than the 400! And the 400 was a small block engine! I don't know if any modifications were made to the 400 in the 1970s to lighten it. I think it was still the iron heads and iron block configuration. I don't know when aluminum cylinder heads were introduced. I'll have to look that up.
