Iraq: Today's Super Surge Story

With the sharp drop in violence this year, women are venturing onto the roads. They are gingerly reclaiming freedoms denied by the Islamic extremists who warned them to stop driving, give up makeup and cover their hair -- or risk death.

Meanwhile....
Suicide bombings in Baghdad and Mosul took the lives of at least 32 Iraqis on Monday in carnage that recalled the levels of violence before the American troop buildup last year.

That, at least, is what she had been told. But when she went to the U.S. military detention center at Camp Bucca, they had no record of her brother.

That's one of the ironies that followed the 2003 invasion -- extreme theocratic elements coming to the surface in what was perhaps the most secular republic in the region.

Camp Bucca is named after Ron Bucca. He and his family lived next-door to me in the late 70s and early 80s. I was friends with his daughter, Jessica. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ronald_Paul_Bucca
