The Western media has been obsessing with images of dying Neda as the symbol of Iranian resistance. I want to remind all of "Kianush Asa", the Kurdish graduate student of Elm-O-San'at; the stronghold of Ahmadinejad's academic cronies. Kianush was a student activist; was a an artist, was killed brutally by a shot in the neck--something his family has been trying to bring to the attention of the world; but their "provincial" shyness has not given them the spotlight that other Tehrani victims (namely Neda and Sohrab) have gotten--thanks to the brave action of their grieving mothers.

The protest in Elm O san'at is important because here students are fighting in the lion's lair.

Kianush Asa's case is also particularly noteworthy because not only was he killed--in a manner different than officially announced by the IRI--but also because his protesting brother Kaamraan Asa is now in prison. And because the trembling voice of his sister interviewed by Radio Zamaaneh, who didn't know where her other brother is detained, and whose mother was too ill and too grieved to be able to make a public case of his son, made me WONDER why do we make popular heros at the cost of forgetting the names, causes, and ethnic backgrounds of all those others?

In this protes in Elm O San'at, students have been holding up signs that read: "Free Kamran Aasaa" ...

Thanks for that info. I think there may have been a video of his shooting in June. I recall seeing a horrifying Youtube clip of a young man bleeding to death as several people covered his neck wound with their hands. I wonder if that was him. I was always puzzled why that clip never gained as much coverage.

I doubt the lack of publicity is due to ethnic chauvinism.

If you are referring to this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PD0DK5B-GtY&feature=related, the young man in this video is not kianoush Assa. The young man in this video is Mehdi Karami and he was shot and killed in Isfahan as the video suggests.

This was the first of many horrifying images I saw and I could not rest until I knew who he was. I searched and searched until I found his name. In this site http://www.persia.org/list/ his picture is the last on the right hand side of the sixth row. Kianoush Assa is the first on the left hand side of the third row.
