Palestine Opinion: A Cry of Anguish over Vittorio Arrigoni

Much has been written about the murder of Italian pro-Palestinian rights activist Vittorio Arrigoni in the past couple of weeks. I must say I wanted to write something earlier, but I wanted to let him rest in peace for at least a moment before I dragged his memory into the stinking mess that we call Planet Earth these days.

For some, it’s crystal-clear who killed Vittorio Arrigoni. It’s very straight-forward: Vittorio Arrigoni killed Vittorio Arrigoni.

Seriously, who in their right mind goes out to try fight for the rights of others, whether they are right or wrong, for no price? If you’re going to get involved in a cause out of pure altruism, knowing that it will be a dangerous and possibly life-threatening endeavor, then, you are very responsible for what happens to you.

No, Vittorio wasn’t killed by Vittorio. He was killed by Muslims.

I’m not talking about the animals who abducted and then killed him. I’m talking about the Muslims who for decades have turned a blind eye to such acts simply because they do not wish to deal with it. We, the people of the Islamic world, have decided that what is essentially our problem needs to be dealt with by others.

We have started to bankrupt nations, ruin the lives of our own people and destabilise the entire world just because we are irresponsible brats. We live in our kindergarten because the terrorism that’s been clinging on to our collective backsides like a used diaper needs to be changed by someone else.

We, the offspring of what we call civilised peoples, are not prepared or even ready to combat what is our problem. We are blind to our own people getting slaughtered daily by our own brothers, fathers, and sons because we could care less. After all, there’s always Israel, the United Kingdom and the Evil Empire of the United States of America to blame, right?

I feel sorry for Vittorio.

I don’t feel sorry for him because I think he wasted his life. If there is an afterlife and there is a Creator, I’m sure he/she will reward him for at least not being selfish and giving his life up for a cause that he thought would relieve people’s poverty, lack of basic necessities, and the inability to lead productive normal lives. It is we who will have to face the same Creator in shame.

Will we ever wake up and start to figure out our problems and try to fix them ourselves? I highly doubt it is going to happen any time soon. We are too busy rejoicing in the failure of the West in destroying Al Qa'eda and the Taliban because the West is our enemy. Who cares if al-Qaeda and Taliban are going to kill thousands of Afghans, Somalis, Pakistanis and....?

Goodbye, Vittorio. Thank you, but your efforts are most probably in vain.
