President Mohamed Morsi1625 GMT: Egypt. An appeals court has ordered the reinstatement of Prosecutor General Abdel Maguid Mahmoud, dismissed by President Morsi last November.

The court also cancelled Morsi's decision to appoint a replacement, Talat Ibrahim.

Morsi's Freedom and Justice Party has expressed its surprise at the decision, which may go to a higher court for review.

1015 GMT: Mali. United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon has proposed an 11,200-strong peacekeeping force.

The force would work alongside non-UN forces to conduct major combat and counter-terrorism operations after French forces, who intervened in January to push insurgents out of northern towns, leave.

"Although the extremists and criminal elements have been dealt a heavy blow, they continue to pose a significant threat to the safety and security of the civilian population and any United Nations personnel deployed in Mali", Ban said in a report to the Security Council.

0945 GMT: Egypt. State news agency MENA, quoting President Morsi, says Parliamentary elections may be held in October.

Morsi had decreed four-stage elections for the lower house of Parliament from late April to June, but a court ruled that the process was unconstitutional.

 

Mursi said the approval of a new election law could take two and a half months, with preparations for the election needing another two months.
