Same-Sex Marriage: Six Minutes From (and About) The Heart
Thursday, November 13, 2008 at 7:32
In the excitement over the Obama victory in the United States, there was a significant setback at the polls. Voters passed a Constitutional amendment, ""Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California."
MSNBC's Keith Olbermann reacted with a moving plea which I hope may be seen by voters --- and anyone else --- who ever have the chance or desire to consider this issue:
"This isn't about yelling. This isn't about politics. This is about the human heart."

Begs the question: Why and how could a state that voted 61% for Obama ...vote FOR Proposition 8?????
Anybody want to take a shot at it?
Okay, here's my take on it...while I've got the guts to post it ----> African-Americans tipped the balance. African-Americans came out so strongly FOR Proposition 8 that there have been some instances of racist rhetoric by some of the gays. But anyway, what's significant is that the reasons for the African-American vote go straight to the practical rationale for opposing gay marriage: They have suffered the most because of the breakdown of traditional marriage and they're trying to stop the pain.
I'm having a hard time understanding how voting to eliminate the right of same sex couples to marry really work towards stopping the the breakdown of traditional marriage. A same sex couple is still going to be together and live together, whether they can marry or not.

Dave did you delete your last comment on purpose or did it just disappear?
Sorry but I'm afraid to post it.
OK, I was worried we were having technical issues :) Fair enough if you didn't want to post it.
