Live Blog: The Moment of Victory
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 4:05
4:00 a.m. CNN projects Barack Obama as President-elect. BBC have him over the top with 293 electoral votes. Fox have conceded.
There will be time to run through the "meaning" of this victory. Real meaning, as in policies to get out of the economic/financial mess, policies to deal with the foreign policy tangles from Iraq to Afghanistan to the Middle East to Latin America, policies to make significant social change rather than the posturing of "culture wars".
But, for now, we're raising glasses of champagne here in Kings Heath, Birmingham, United Kingdom. 4000 miles away but, tonight, very close to "America".
3:59 a.m. Well, the other shoe just dropped. About an hour later than I expected, but no need to quibble now.

Bucks Fizz only here in Bristol- nobody got round to doing the Asda champagne run- but we're celebrating too. Cheers!
Florida just went Blue on the AP fed Google map. 3% lead with 84% in.
I'm just celebrating with a sigh of relief.
McCain's concession speech was gracious. What a terrible shame that so many of his audience couldn't manage the same level of discretion.
Looks like the final number for Obama could be 352 or 367 depending on those 1% leads in Indiana and North Carolina.
Anyone pick that out of the pool?
Great work on the new website, and three cheers for Barack from Vancouver, Canada.
Did anyone see Gore Vidal's interview on BBC World News just now? Brilliantly bonkers, as expected.
I like the way the Fox reporter said there were no boos from the crowd at any part of McCain's speech in regard to Obama, which must have been said assuming that all of Fox News' viewers are deaf. The speech itself was good. Now on to Obama's speech....
