Friday, February 5, 2010 at 12:36
Reports from Monday, which we could not verify, indicated that there was a demonstration in Lars in southern Iran. Video of the Monday gathering emerged yesterday, and this morning there is footage of claimed protests on Wednesday and Thursday:

One issue to point out here is that in the first video Hojjatol Islam [insert name here] --who doesn't really strike me as a senior figure-- is calling for Lar to become a Province which means greater political and economic benefits for its people (same sort of provincial politics has been pursued in the North of Iran). That seems to be the core reason for the protests at this stage and there is no evidence of "green activism" in Lar. With that said, the situation right now is such that any sort of grievance, be it provincial, ethnic, or regional has the potential of being picked up as signs of protest towards the government esp in the days following up 22 Bahman.
@Ali
The significance of these protests is not the motive of the people, but the fact that they're making themselves heard in a country where such things are not tolerated
